The Secret Crypt

Sunderland 163

Was given a tip off about this Crypt up in the North West Sunderland area. It was quite the amazing thing. Underneath a building in an industrial backstreet.

It was found in the most unlikely area and yet what we discovered was rather interesting. There were several catacombs and within these were bodies in the process of being exhumed.

Hi, I’m currently in the process of making a short documentary regarding abandoned/haunted/hidden places in and around Sunderland/Seaham/Ryhope, etc. This secret hidden crypt looks very interesting. Is there any chance you could give me the exact location? I’d like to do a bit of investigating.

    Kindest Regards

I worked in this building, I cannot urge you strongly enough to stay out of it for your own safety. The crypt could potentially contain anthrax spores, cholera, smallpox, and fungal/mould spores which cause chronic lung disease years after exposure (and these are just the known hazards). We would not enter it without full PPE and onsite decontamination units. If you have been inside seek medical advice immediately for prophylactic antibiotics, etc.

    Hi there,

are you able to let us know if these are in Villiers Street, Sunderland..? It’s all in the news lately and other people are hopeful to force the council/sunniside partnership (developer) into consider not destroying it further.
